OUR STORY
the earliest history of the castle goes back to July 25th 998, when the Marquis Ugo di Toscana donated to the church with the hope of saving his soul from the impending end of the world in the year 1000. It was a very important Benedictine monastery, rich and powerful on the ancient route of the Via Francigena, a required stop for the pilgrimages to Rome.
Cause of its strategic military position, it was destroyed in the ‘500 in the war between Florence and Siena and later rebuilt in neo-gothic style in 1886.
Although after the reconstruction of the old structure there is nothing left but the cloister of the XI sec., even now the walls, the walkways, the belvedere and the crenellated towers maintain the atmosphere and the charm of the Middle Ages.
